Runham Class

Each week, children in Year 6 are expected to read at least 5 times to (or in the presence of) an adult/older sibling. Regular reading of a variety of texts not only widens your child’s vocabulary and comprehension skills but supports their ability to become an effective writer.

Please help your child by checking that they understand the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary and by asking them questions about what they have read, including going beyond the literal meaning. Here are a few examples:

  • What do you think will happen next? Why?
  • How did the story begin? What happened in the middle? How did it end?
  • What was the main feeling in the story (e.g. Was it happy, sad…?) and why was this so?
  • Did you learn any new words from this story, if so what?
  • Learning with Parents is our online home learning programme which provides you with activities and ideas to practise your learning at home.

 Please ensure that your child is wearing school uniform and brings the correct PE uniform into the academy on these day

  • Named water bottles into the academy every day. (Water only, no squash or fizzy drinks)

Unfortunately, we can’t let you go home with a different adult unless we have been told that you are being picked up by someone different. Passwords are used for these occasions.
